PRIVACY POLICY AND GDPR COMPLIANCE

If yo are browsing this website or signed up to the Landed newsletter we have some data about you. This is not a bad thing. It helps us to improve our content and to be able to continue delivering useful information to you for free. Here is the information about what data is collected and how it is used.

How is the data collected?

When you browse the website a small piece of code called ‘cookie’ collects information about with pages are visited and links up some basic information about you with Google’s data. This website has Google Analytics tracking, which means that we took this ‘cookie’ from Google and they show us some basic insights about who are the people visiting this website and what type of content they find interesting. Read more about Google Analytics here.

In addition to this we collect data through the newsletter signup form. This signup is happening through a GDPR compliant e-mail marketing service called Mail Chimp. In this case you need to actively enter your e-mail address and your name and activate your signup the confirmation e-mail. Your information is directly sent to the Mail Chimp platform and is never used anywhere outside of that.

We also collect e-mail addresses through the entry questionnaire of the Sydney Social by LANDED Facebook Group. Again, in this case you would need to actively share your e-mail address. With the approval to the group, the information is no longer stored in the Facebook platform. We manually copy the e-mail address into Mail Chimp and it is never stored anywhere else. You will receive a confirmation e-mail about your signup which you will actively need to accept. Read more about Mail Chimp’s policy here.

What kind of data is collected?

Google Analytics collects basic information such as age, gender, location, the device you are using, which pages people visited, how much time they spent on them etc. This is only collective information and cannot be linked to individuals. All we can see in Google analytics that 40% of the people who visied the site are male, or 30 people visited an article while 50 visited the other.

For our newsletter we only collect name and e-mail address.

Why is this data colected?

We collect website data for two reasons;

1. To help us improve the content and make it more useful for you.

2. To use the information for monetization. There is a lot of time and resource going into Landed, in order to be able to offer this help for free we need to find ways to make money. There are companies who would like to show their products to people exactly like you who are just moving to Sydney or is an expat here. This is an opportunity for brands that are relevant to get in front of you and showcase their products and services. It’s important to know that under no circumstances would we share your information with these brands.

The newsletter signup information is necessary for sending you updates and useful information. These e-mails will occassionally contain sponsored content when it is relevant to the content and appropriate. For example we would send you a blog article about how insurance works, and it may be sponsored by an insurance company we recommend. Again, the reason for this is to cover our costs by advertising and be able to continue providing this information to you for free. It is important to note that we only recommend products and services that we truly believe in and we are using or would use ourselves.

How is your data used?

When we look at Google Analytics the data really helps us understand what readers find useful. For example we can see how many people visited certain articles, and how much time was spent on each page on average. As a result we will write more articles similar to the ones that are more popular.

When we speak to brands about advertising on our website, social groups and newsletter they want to make sure they are getting value. For this reason the data really help us to talk to them. For example we can tell them how many people visit the website, or how many people are signed up to the newsletter.

Is your data shared with anyone?

No, we never share your data with anyone.

Can your data be deleted?

The information collected through the website in Google Analytics is cumulative, so by definition we are not able to link it back to you.

If you no longer wish to receive communications from us, you can unsubscribe on the bottom of the newsletter and we will no longer have your name and e-mail address.

If you have any questons or requests regarding your data, please drop us an e-mail through the contct form and we will get back to you.
